What is Tomato?
Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) is an annual herbaceous plant belonging to the genus Solanum in the family Solanaceae, reaching up to 2 meters in height. Genetically modified tomatoes are bright red, with firm fruit that is less prone to cracking. Tomato stems are prone to lodging; leaves are pinnately compound with a wedge-shaped, somewhat oblique base and irregular serrations; the corolla is radiate, yellow, with narrow, oblong lobes; the berry is oblate or nearly spherical, fleshy and juicy, orange-yellow or bright red, with a smooth surface; flowering and fruiting occur in summer and autumn; seeds are yellow and covered with soft hairs.
